Dr. Rylander earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Eureka College in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in cardiac rehabilitation. After working in healthcare for some time he moved forward and earned both his Master’s degree in physical therapy (MPT) and eventually his Doctorate of Education (EdD) from Governors State University. His doctoral dissertational research explored factors that contribute towards the development of clinical confidence in physical therapists. Dr. Rylander is a board-certified orthopedic specialist (OCS) as well as being both a certified vestibular rehabilitation specialist and certified brain injury specialist. In addition to several other advanced treatment certifications, he is also a certified spinal manual therapist from the International Spine and Pain Institute.
Throughout the years, Dr. Rylander has worked in virtually every scope of practice however his clinical passion lies in the area complex concussion management. He was one of the first physical therapists in the Midwest to work with concussions and has taught hundreds of healthcare providers on the concepts of concussion management. Dr. Rylander has contributed towards multiple texts on the topics of concussion evaluation and treatment and strives towards spreading knowledge of best practice within the field.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Rylander has played an active role in education for over a decade. He has been an adjunct professor at Governors State University teaching multiple courses in motor control and motor learning, exercise physiology, and clinical neurology. In the world of concussion rehabilitation, he has taught continuing education courses from coast to coast and continues to actively mentor and educate fellow rehabilitation professionals.
